Aim: in this study, preliminary surgical results of the cases operated in the Clinic of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of Medical Faculty in Harran University were evaluated. Method: Thirty-eight patients were operated consisted of eighteen women and twenty men. Aortocoronary bypass were performed in thirteen ones and nine of them were operated on beating heart technique. Valve replacement was performed on seven remainders, congenital defect repair on seventeen other. Ascending aorta of another patient having type I dissection was replaced. Results: Two of the patients have died in the early period postoperatively due to bleeding in type I dissection and pulmonary hypertension resulting right ventricular failure in congenital univentricular defect. Six of living remainders had some complications such as low cardiac output, bleeding, arrhythmia, atrioventricular conductance blockage, sternal instability. As a result, our mortality was 5.3% and morbidity was 15.8%. Conclusions: Considering these results, we concluded that cardiac surgery could be performed in our clinic with reliable morbidity and mortality rates.
