The definition of the quality of life is made as 'the way of perceiving his/her own position in the system of culture and values' by the World Health Organization (WHO). Senectitude seems to be in the front rank to diminish the quality of life. This study was performed to determine the effects of the physical and social environments and the global health conditions to the life quality of the elderly people, living in Mahmudiye township of Eskişehir, wherein the region of Osmangazi University, Medical Faculty, Department of Public Health. We reached the 418 of 421 people above the age of 65, detected from the records of Mahmudiye health center. The Turkish version of WHOQOL-BREF TR (WHO quality of life scale) and a questionnaire, states precisely the existence of the chronic diseases and the , applied to the individuals by face to face interview. The mean score of all fields, except social field, found to be diminished in conjunction with the increasing age. The mean scores were lower in women, widows and illiterates. Having a diagnosed chronic disease seemed to diminish the quality of life in all fields, including social field, of the individuals. In conclusion, we agree that, it is vital to constitute community health duty in order to upgrade the life quality of elderly people.
