Background: We evaluated the traumatic pediatric and adolescent vascular injuries and discussed the surgical treatment methods. Material and Method: Between 1984 and 2007, a total of 89 pediatric patients (70 males, 19 females; mean age 12.7 years; range 1-18 years) who admitted with traumatic vascular injuries were evaluated retrospectively. Arterial trauma was detected 35 cases in the upper extremity, 54 cases in the lower extremity. The causes of trauma were blunt with 16 patients, penetran with 72 cases and burn with 1 patient. Results: 102 surgical procedures were performed. The most surgical procedure that was done for 30 cases were otogen saphein vein graft interposition. Primer repair was used for 28 cases and synthetic graft for 5 patients. The average discharge time was 4.5 days. 80 patients were discharged without any complications, 9 patients underwent amputation. No mortality was seen. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and treatment methods help us to reach adult surgical success rate for pediatric vascular injuries.
